Redefining HR: Why This Newsletter Exists

Updated: Apr 1

Welcome to "Work, Rewritten", a place for people who actually care about work—without the corporate jargon, HR-approved talking points, or LinkedIn buzzwords that mean nothing in real life. If you’ve ever thought:  🤔 Why does hiring take forever?  🤔 Why do so many managers suck at managing?  🤔 Why does “culture” mean free snacks but not fair pay? …you’re in the right place. This newsletter exists because HR isn’t the problem—the way we do HR is. And it’s time to fix that.

HR Wasn’t Built for Startups (Or Employees, Honestly)

Most HR advice is made for big, slow-moving companies with endless resources and bureaucratic hoops. That’s not helpful for startups, nonprofits, or fast-growing teams that need flexible, no-BS people strategies that actually work. At the same time, HR is often seen as the villain—the rule enforcers, the fun police, the people who show up when things go wrong. And let’s be real, sometimes HR does get it wrong. But when done right, HR isn’t about compliance—it’s about:

  • Hiring the right people—without wasting time on bad processes

  • Creating cultures that don’t just “sound” good, but actually are good

  • Helping businesses scale without burning out their teams

HR should be a strategic advantage, not an afterthought.

What You’ll Get Here

Work Rewritten is where we:  🔥 Call out the corporate BS that makes work harder than it needs to be  💡 Give real, practical strategies for hiring, people ops, and leadership  😂 Share wild workplace stories that prove why we need to do better And we’re not stopping there. This isn’t just my voice—I’ll be inviting other editors to join in on this conversation, sharing their work stories from different industries and backgrounds. Ever wondered what it’s like for a med student doing their first hospital rotation? Or what it’s really like to be a spin instructor at a local studio? What about the work culture inside a family-run clinic, a nonprofit, or a fast-scaling tech company?

We’ll explore it all—the local, the big, the small, the messy, the inspiring. Because work isn’t one-size-fits-all, and neither are the lessons we can learn from it.

Why I Started This Newsletter

I’ve spent years helping startups, tech companies, and nonprofits build their hiring, people ops, and HR systems from scratch. I’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and what’s just expensive software that no one actually uses. I started Work, Rewritten because:

  • HR should move at the speed of business—not slow it down.

  • Employees shouldn’t have to “figure it out” when companies fail them.

  • Founders shouldn’t wait until a lawsuit to start caring about HR.

Work isn’t perfect. But we can do better. Let’s rewrite the playbook.

📩 Stick around, hang out and let’s make work suck less.
